Cornell Experience Modernization Initiative

As common as possible, as different as absolutely necessary

CEMI Workstreams

Achieving a seamless digital environment across Cornell will require coordinated progress on six interdependent initiatives — like building all six legs while simultaneously raising the table.

Each of the six CEMI vertical focus areas—or workstreams—is led by a team of community members with expertise in that specific function of the university. Each project is dependent on the others, requiring the teams to continuously coordinate and share updates with each other.

Within each of the six workstreams, multiple readiness and design activities are underway.

Workday Administrative System

Selected as the university’s core administrative system, the Workday aspect of CEMI will streamline and facilitate better workflows for Cornell community members with responsibilities including Budget, Finance, and Human Resources. To distinguish between the vendor’s HR solution in place on the Ithaca campus, the new university-wide administrative solution is sometimes referred to as Workday Enterprise Resource Planning or Workday Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).

Kindsight Donor and Engagement Experience

Reaching alumni, patients, donors, and other constituents through their preferred communications channels remains a challenge, so engagement and fundraising teams from Weill Cornell Medicine, Cornell’s Ithaca campus, and the Lab of Ornithology are collaborating on a single platform for an improved and seamless university-wide experience.

Student Services

Most student services depend on information systems to provide accurate information about courses, schedules, billing, graduation, and other goals and statuses. Across Cornell, the spectrum of degrees, academic calendars, and student support services is complicated by a university footprint that spans timezones and cultures. This workstream in CEMI focuses on improving the student digital experience on each campus while leveraging a single streamlined platform.

Research Administration

Research Administration post-award processes keep projects on track. This CEMI workstream focuses on unifing these research administration functions across Cornell.

Data and Analytics

Easy access to reliable data improves reporting and analytics, which helps university leaders make better and timely decisions. This CEMI workstream is co-dependent on Workday ERP, Donor and Engagement Experience, Student Services, and Research Administration for data, and on the Technical workstream for connections and implementation.

Technical

The Technical workstream in CEMI is focused on the implementation of new platforms, connects the systems with other solutions, evaluates previous applications that filled gaps and might build new tools if a specific requirement can’t be met with existing solutions.

Get Involved

Each college, school, and business unit experiences overlapping interests; as CEMI focus groups and design or readiness teams seek volunteers representing the breadth of the university, participant invitations may arrive simulataneously. Thank you for accepting invitations that match the level of participation you and your supervisor deem appropriate. Stay informed or volunteer in the Get Involved page.
